MCT oil is an oil exclusively made up of so-called medium chain triglycerides (MCT). Normal oils and fats (vegetable oils and animal fats) consist of long chain fatty acids (LCFA). Exceptions are the coconut fat and palm kernel fat, as well as butterfat (butter/ghee), which - besides long chain fatty acids also contain some medium chained triglycerides, as well.
There are 3 (+1) types of medium chain tryglicerides:
• caproic acid (C6)
• caprylic acid (C8)
• capric acid (C10)
• lauric acid (C12) - this is the odd one out
Lauric acid belongs to the above list only from chemical point of view, from physiological point of view it behaves like a long chain fatty acid instead.
Short and medium chain fatty acids, such as those contained in the MCT oil are digested/absorbed as quickly as glucose, and do not require either fat digesting lipase enzyme or gall. Normal fats/oils on the other hand are capable of utilizing only slowly, and with the help of the gall and sufficient quantity of lipase enzyme. Another relevant difference is between the MCT oil and normal oils/fats that fatty acids of the MCT are transformed in the liver into a version of butter acid and other ketone bodies, which form better fuels for the brain, than the usual glucose.
Coconut fat and palm fat mainly contain lauric acid, and - similarly to butter - only very few of medium chain fatty acids providing so useful nutrients for the brain. The MCT oil contains approximately 10 to 20 times more of these.
What’s more, larger part (55 percent) of the GAL MCT oil is caproic acid, which is the most efficient from all in producing “brain fuel”.
Besides the above, all medium chain fatty acids have antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral effects as well. They also have a slight appetite suppressing and metabolic enhancing effect.
We created it primarily for those on ketogenic diet or intermittent fasting, but it can be a useful supplement for anyone.
The GAL MCT oil contains RSPO qualified medium chain fatty acids made of palm oil and ghee extract originating from sustainable farms. RSPO qualification is important in case of all palm oil and MCT products, as production of similar products without RSPO qualification involves elimination of orangutans and their natural habitats.
For the sake of higher stability, we naturally enriched our product with vitamin E complex (mixed tocoferols).
Directions for use: In the beginning - until you get used to it - it may easily cause diarrhea, so you should start with only 1 teaspoon at a time. Later, you can take as much as 10 to 20 ml, too. It has a pleasant, buttery taste, excellent with any food, salad, but it is often mixed in coffee or hot chocolate, or consumed as it is. It is not for baking with, though, we do not recommend using it above 120 °C.
